Following The Cecilia Consort's hugely successful guest appearance with The Marian Consort at the Corn Exchange during Newbury's 2016 Spring Festival, members of the soprano section have been invited to perform the iconic Monteverdi Vespers of 1610 with the Armonico Consort on Friday 19th May at Holy Cross Church, Ramsbury.

The piece was composed especially for performance in the remarkable acoustic of St. Mark's, Venice and has established itself as one of the most innovative works of the early Baroque period. Brilliant instrumental writing, lavish choruses and moving arias make up the Monteverdi Vespers and what better way to celebrate the 450th anniversary of the composer's birth than with this joint performance featuring two well established vocal ensembles under the musical directorship of Christopher Monks.

"An excellent all-round performance in which Monks led and inspired a thoroughly good ensemble and displayed the sublime music of the master to its best." (Birmingham Post)
