As you may know, last year was The Cecilia Consort's 30th Anniversary. Amazingly, Janet Coxwell's choir had an unbroken record of performing for the last 3 decades - that is, until our 30th anniversary concert in Douai Abbey was cancelled in November. Keen, nonetheless, to mark this significant milestone, the choir plans to record a 30th Anniversary album later in 2021 instead.
The Greenham Trust has generously agreed to match-fund £1 for £1 all monies we raise by 9th May, and here's where we hope Newbury's enthusiastic pool of singers may be able to help: On Saturday 6th March we'd be delighted if you could help us create an online singing chain from 9am - 5pm, on Zoom. Individual singers, whole households, or potentially 2 people meeting outside (if that's what the rules still stipulate) are encouraged to dust off their party piece(s) and sign up for one or more 10-minute slots, donating £10 per slot to the fundraising effort via the Good Exchange link: http://bit.ly/3ajIpNE All genres welcome: from sea shanties to opera...
There are 48 slots to fill. We're thrilled that Janet herself (and hopefully a few friends from the professional singing world) will make guest appearances here and there during the day. Here's a sneak preview of the timetable! Whether you take a slot or not (and some may want to donate a few pounds NOT to sing?!), please feel free to share the link as widely as possible with friends & family both near and far, who might enjoy entertaining us with a song, or just watching/listening on Zoom.
There is no charge for the 'audience', but if they wish to donate a few pounds during the day, they can do so by clicking the same link: http://bit.ly/3ajIpNE; encouraged by the fact that every £1 they donate will be doubled by the Greenham Trust. We think this will be a really fun, unifying and entertaining day for all of us to be involved in and thank you so much in advance for your support!
